Chances are that you are a spiritually curious soul or a soul that is sensitive to energy and that of the moon. Well, hello dear friend. We are already friends! I’ve always had an affinity with the moon since being a very little girl. I could feel the magnetic pull of the moon and would spend hours just gazing at it, day dreaming. For it’s beauty alone, the moon and her phases is a pretty spectacular thing to see. 


But once you understand the power that the moon can have on your energetic life with regards to frequency and vibration, you’ll never look at the moon in the same way again. And if you're here reading this then you'll likely know this too. This full moon is a celestial event has long been associated with mystery and spirituality. In this blog, we'll explore how you can connect with the energies of the full moon through rituals that are simple to do and enlightening to enhance your own healing, awakening, manifesting or spiritual journey. Whether you regularly work with the moons energy or are new to it, you'll find all thing moon based to give you valuable insights and practical steps to make the most of the energy of the next full moon.


What a full moon is (spiritually)?

There's no denying that the full moon is a real beauty to look at. A show stopper. But it's also a powerful time for reflection and becoming aware of the limiting self that we all carry, looking at the shadows we hold, releasing what no longer serves us, connecting to the true "I AM" and manifesting and stepping into your true desires, learn, lean into, and have faith that abundance that is your birthright of the 'true self'.


Spiritually the full moon is a culmination of energy built up through the whole lunar cycle. And a beautiful time when we can harness those energies for journalling, releasing and manifestation. So why not?


In my woo woo days before I truly understood energy I honestly thought that the moon was magic. I'd see the way that the moon seemed to affect people (myself included) with intensified emotions and different energy levels, even driving seemed to feel difficult or chaotic at different times in a lunar cycle. I never fully understood the power that each full moon held and now I use it as a perfect time to let go of what no longer serves me and set intentions for the future.


What is a Full Moon Ritual?

Simply put a Full Moon Ritual is a ceremony or actions performed during the full moon to tap into the lunar energy (believed to be at its peak during the full moon). It sounds very structured, but in truth you can loosely follow this idea that you set intentions, release emotions and manifest. Using techniques such as journalling, meditation, energy cleansing, candles, plus the ritual action of getting rid of (through burning, tearing or burying the piece of paper on which you write these things on). Different phases of the moon are good for different things, whether it's bring in or letting go of the thought / intention. You may want to use known full moon crystals during your ritual. Step by Step - The Steps for a Full Moon Ritual

Full Moon Cleansing

To begin a full moon ritual you will want to cleans or neutralise any stagnant or negative energy. Use sage smudge stick alongside palo santo to purify the energy of your space. Saging (often called smudging) is a beneficial practice during a full moon. It helps to cleanse your space and aura of negative energy, making room for the positive energy of the full moon. You can sage your body too as well as any tools that you are using such as crystals. The ritual kit I offer includes a version that includes sage and palo santo in it if you do not have these to hand yourself. Light sage and allow the smoke to purify the space and your aura. Light palo santo to bring positivity into your space and aura. Envision the negative energy dissipating from your surroundings and within you, making room for clarity and positivity as you literally mimic rub out / smudge away the energy. This step helps you set a sacred space and prepare your mind for the moon ritual.

Full Moon Meditation and Reflection:

Next find a comfortable position to meditate. If you struggle to meditate you may like to listen to a guided full moon meditation such as this one to help guide you into the ritual. Or use a guided meditation script to read through and prompt your thoughts.


Focus on your breath and allow your thoughts to settle. Ask yourself, "What should I let go of?" - what do you desire to let go of? This could be anything from negative emotions, an unhealthy habit, an undesirable situation, a toxic relationship. Really anything that you are not happy about. Allow yourself to fully feel these emotions and then visualise them leaving your body, giving way to a sense of lightness and freedom and you will further release a little while on it the ritual.


Full Moon Journalling and Intention Setting - Writing Down Your Intentions:

After your meditation write down your intentions for the coming lunar cycle. Be as specific as possible when intention setting, focusing on what genuinely matters to you and what you wish to attract or achieve.

This could range from personal growth goals to physical manifestation, to dreams or aspirations in your career or friendships or relationships. Writing down your intentions helps with the manifestation process. First we must think the thought, then we should try to embody the feeling of having already manifested the outcome to align the energies of thought to the physical world. Full Moon Visualisation:

A visualisation is going to help you feel into the feelings of having already manifested the desired outcome. Visualise your intentions as if they have already happened. Imagine the feelings that you would feel. Feelings of joy, accomplishment, and peace that come with achieving these goals and lean into the feelings. These feelings help you embody the energy of the desire. A powerful and essential step to successful manifesting. Alignment will draw the feeling closer to reality.

The Full Moon Release Ritual:

The burning ritual involves writing down what you wish to release (e.g., fears, negative patterns) on a piece of paper and safely burning it. This act symbolises letting go of those elements in your life, allowing you to move forward with a lighter spirit. This part is a symbolic act of release that doesn't always have to involve burning. If it's more convenient to tear a piece of paper that you've written the intentions on or bury it - then do this instead. It's not the burning that lets' go but your act of letting go. As the paper burns, imagine releasing those aspects from your life.

Or as you tear the paper, imagine you are ripping through that aspect. You can also choose to simply speak out loud what you're releasing. It is your intention behind the the act that is the release. You are a powerful being and by simply affirming that you release is a powerful enough statement that you affirm to the universe that you're ready to let go and move forward. The universe is always listening. You must tell it with voice, mind or feeling exactly what you want.


Gratitude after A Full Moon:

Finish the full moon ritual with thanks and gratitude. When you already look upon the release as having already happened. Or the manifested already manifested and felt the feelings of what it feels like to have let go or achieved your dreams. By the very nature of this you would feel very thankful. This moment of gratitude is your signal to the Universe of your faith.

Faith is essential here. You must know that it's done. It is not for you to worry about when or how it's done. But your faith alone counts for everything and the Universe responds. Thank the full moon and the universe for their energy, and guidance during the full moon ritual. But also for silently guiding you throughout the lunar cycle to come (even when you may forget to express this gratitude). Expressing gratitude is a super powerful way to end your moon ritual, as acknowledges the gifts you've received and it opens your heart to future blessings to come that you most definitely will want to thank for and be open to receive. Manifestation is powerful when you know the wish has already been fulfilled. Feeling of gratitude elevate vibrations also as the emotion of gratitude is a high vibrational feeling. What not to do in a Full Moon?

The Full Moon is a powerful time of illumination, release, and heightened emotion. A beautiful portal for transformation, but even so, there are some things that can hinder the process or misalign your energy during a ritual that you might want to consider.

Here’s a list of things to avoid during a Full Moon ritual, and why...

Forcing or Pushing Too Hard

  • Why: The full moon is a time for surrender and release — not force. Trying to "manifest" aggressively or over-efforting can block flow and create resistance.

  • Instead: Allow things to surface and let go with grace. Trust that less is more.

Holding onto Anger, Resentment, or Fear

  • Why: The energy you bring into your ritual amplifies. If you're clinging to blame or fear, it can cloud your clarity and block release. Shadow blocks especially.

  • Instead: Acknowledge your emotions lovingly, then invite them to move through you with breath or journaling.

Multitasking or Rushing

  • Why: A rushed or distracted ritual disconnects you from your body and intuition — which are key to a meaningful release.

  • Instead: Create a calm, uninterrupted space. Even 10–15 minutes of presence is powerful.

Setting New Intentions

  • Why: The full moon is not the best time to plant new seeds — it’s the peak of energy, designed for letting go, not calling in.

  • Instead: Focus on clearing what no longer serves you. Save big goal-setting or manifesting for the new moon.

Being Around Toxic Energy

  • Why: Emotions are heightened during the full moon. Being around negative people, arguments, or overstimulating environments can drain you and throw off your energy.

  • Instead: Set energetic boundaries. Protect your peace and honour your need for space.

Overconsumption (Food, Alcohol, Media)

  • Why: Overindulging dulls intuition and pulls you away from your inner world.

  • Instead: Lighten your body and mind — go for nourishing food, herbal tea, and quiet reflection.

Being Unclear About What You're Releasing

  • Why: Vague intentions = vague results. Your ritual needs clarity to direct the energy.

  • Instead: Reflect beforehand. Journal to get clear on what’s ready to go.

Ignoring Your Body or Intuition

  • Why: Your body may give you signs — emotions, tightness, images, messages — that are trying to guide your release.

  • Instead: Stay grounded in your body. Breathe deeply. Listen to your inner cues.
