Moving My Whole Family From The U.K. To Bali!

We did it - We Booked One Way Tickets to Bali - A family moving abroad to Bali

In June 2024 we bought and took one way tickets to Bali. I’ve never bought one way tickets before, it definitely feels different. And I made a YouTube Short vid here of the 8,000 mile move something I've also never done before. 2024 is turning out to be quite the year of firsts. And that was always the plan. Pushing ourselves out of our comfort zone, doing new things and not settling. Go follow those dreams girlfriend. (My videos will get better from here I promise).

Two years ago in Mexico, we made the big life decision to pack up our lives in the UK and as a family moving abroad to Bali.

We’d been feeling super burnt out with our lives in the UK, feeling unfulfilled and unhappy for a long time. Feeling stuck in a rut in the rat race. And worst of all it was our own business. And so it was our our own rat race that we'd created. We were working long hours, never seeming to have enough money or time. To live for the weekends and holidays and not really much living inbetween those times. I call these times 'surviving' - we were most certainly NOT thriving. We disliked so much about UK living. Waking up in the dark, going to be in the dark. Closed living not being outdoors to eat in the garden or have the windows open for fresh air because of the cold. Severe lack of sunshine, the cold weather (did I mention the cold weather!?), then the constant rain (we lived in the Pennines in the North West of England, which see’s about the most of all the rain in the UK), the keeping up with the Jones’ mentality of taking on more debt to buy the bigger house, the bigger car etc. The non stop constant busy rat race life we were living of living to work. Something had to give and we’d thought about moving to the sunshine for a long time. I realise this is a right moan-fest - I just want to paint the picture of our feelings - and the colours I'm using are grey. Not depression thunderous grey just a colour wash of grey. The feeling of being unfulfilled and knowing there's SO MUCH MORE.

Many things had led us to Bali. Signs from the Universe, omens and objects appearing in front of us, guiding us towards the decision and the location, a lot of soul searching, digging deep and listening to our intuition. I really need to do a post on this. And once we decided on the move, it was a though all things conspired to make what was once an impossible dream, happen.

I’d been reading Paulo Cohelho’s The Alchemist and it felt so true with many quotes in that book namely:

" When you have a dream and want something, all the universe conspires in helping you to achieve it. "

Once we decided on what our dream was, it became impossible for it not to happen. Lot’s of things had to happen to make such a jump. New skills had to be learnt to make a change from running our physical office based businesses in the UK to learning new skills that would make us money online and remotely. We had to become digital nomads (aged 40+).  You can learn literally ANYTHING. And become ANYTHING. Be anyone you want to be. Be the person you always wanted t be. At any age. You're never too old to do what you were always meant to do. A quote I live by. I should really do a post on becoming a digital nomad in your 40's or older (or something like that! I never now what readers want so comment if that sounds goooood).

We had to learn new ways of learning too (a quick post on a Free Home Schooling course that I took), for the kids, as we were planning to take the kids out of mainstream education and homeschool for the first time in our lives (see the reasons why we're worldschooling) we had gotten tired of having to state our case for the kids not to have some forced immunisation (we had to really state our case for the flu jab being given to all kids in the UK and used the Elie Grey templates to argue our case. Thanks Ellie) or such like. The system does not like it when parents have autonomy over their own kids. Who knew! Our school was very good though, but we were seeing topics being brought into schools that did not sit right for us personally. And many parents feel forced into having their children in school and it just doesn't need to be this way.

We had to finish a project house that we had been renovating to free us up time wise to be able to go. And if needed, we would sell this to make the trip happen.

Once we decided on a a dream. The intention was put in place. Sent out to the Universe as a request, a prayer even. And we knew that it was going to absolutely happen. Even though logistically, it was an impossibility at seed stage.

But the Universe works in mysterious ways (See The 12 Universal Laws). And so 2 years later, we were setting off on the biggest adventure of our lives. Taking one way tickets to Bali with our 2 children. Not knowing what it would be like. Or how we would make it work. Or even if the sunshine life would work for us.

But knowing one thing for sure in that we couldn’t not take the adventure to make memories forever with our kids.

And the Universe had provided for us already, we were going to continue trusting in our inner guidance and knowing that everything works out one way or another if you trust the process. And to try an not overthink the whole epic thing and just enjoy the journey. One day at a time. One step at a time (until the thing is done).

Moving Day family moving abroad to Bali

Diary Log - 4th June 2024: We took 3 planes that day. Saw 4 countries. And travelled over 8,000 miles following signs from the Universe.

After 28 hours of travel! Absolutely whacked out.
