The Optimal Pinterest Pin Size for 2026

Want to know What the Optimal Pinterest Pin Size is for 2026? so you can pin the best way that converts and grows...

Getting the size of your pins right before you start on your Pinterest marketing strategy is going to save you sooo much time. This was a mistake I made in the early days of using Pinterest to market a gift business and I wish I'd have done this correctly from the start.

And in this blog I share best practice sizings and proven layouts that grow and convert best. So you stop wasting your precious time with tasks that don't work. I'm not gatekeeping any of this stuff because in 2026 we should all be winning online. The opportunities to earn online are immense and it's accessible to everybody. Starting with the basics, right here, it's all about size!

Instead my Pinning in the past was haphazard, messy, different sizes and just chaotic. And din't really work and so I left Pinterest to grow my biz in other ways. Rolls eyes. Because Pinterest is literally THE BEST WAY to GROW a BUSINESS. Especially if it's pretty or can b e made to look pretty with visually appealing pins (more on those in a short while).

But you only know what you know! And when I started that business way back, I had no clue on how to market it digitally. In fact I was clueless - and I'm now revisiting that business with my newly acquired digital marketing head on.

I help people market their businesses now but it wasn't always that way and I started with a course. Then another course that didn't give me what I needed. In fact I almost stopped spending on courses because they just didn't give me what I needed and I felt as though I was wasting my money. Until I found a one-stop-shop for beginners marketing course that if you're completely new to digital marketing like I was, then I strongly suggest a beginners course like this as Digital Marketing is a huge topic. And it's an ever changing landscape. This is the best Digital Marketing Course that I have ever done. That gives me free continual access to new modules as the industry grows and evolves. So beginners this one's for you!

An essential part of growing any digital or physical business is knowing how to market it on all the various digital platforms. And getting really good at it. Even just wanting to grow your social media following requires strategy. And a good solid Pinterest Marketing Strategy will see growth that takes months if not years to get with Google traffic.

And today I'm sharing this first Pinterest Digital Marketing Strategy Tip - and it's a simple one, but one that's overlooked. And it's simply getting the pin sizing right. So here's some best practice methods that will really help you start out on your Pinterest Digital Marketing Strategy.

First of all you'll want to open a Pinterest account (if you haven't already), complete your bio profile, create some core boards, include title and descriptions for SEO, and then start pinning. But what to pin? Well, that comes next. But first you will want to set up a Canva template that you will use for your pins going forward. And the below guide will share exactly the right sizing of this template that will make viewers happy, gain maximum re-pins, shares, likes and yes ultimately make Pinterest really happy.

The Optimal Pinterest Pin Size (2026 Best Practice)

👉 1000 × 1500 px (2:3 ratio)

This is Pinterest’s preferred size and performs best for reach and click-through.

So if you're using Canva to create your pins (as I do), you can set up a blank Canva template to 1000x1500 px. Or use the many templates in the Elements section of Canva that will provide nicely designed pins that you can drag and drop your own photos and text to.

📐 Why 1000 × 1500 px Works Best

• Pinterest explicitly recommends a 2:3 ratio

• Pins display cleanly on mobile (where most users are)

• Taller pins get more screen space without being cut off

• Less likely to be truncated or de-prioritised by the algorithm

Pinterest currently says anything taller than 2:3 may be cropped in feeds.

How This Works With a websites product images or Instagram images for example. My Shopify store product images are 1500 × 1500 Pixels

These square images are actually perfect — but you just don’t want to upload them as-is.

The Best approach in Canva:

  1. Create your 1000 × 1500 px canvas or use my template above.

  2. Place your 1500 × 1500 product image inside it

  3. Either:

    • crop slightly (centre-focused), or

    • keep full image and add soft background above/below

This gives you flexibility to add:

• gentle text overlay

• brand name

• breathing space

Best Design Structure for Products

You'll find many of the best layouts for converting in my templates ready to just add your own logo and products or images of yourself if you are a service business or coach.

Here’s what converts best for premium products:

Option 1 — Top Text / Bottom Product

• Soft headline at top

• Large product image below

• Clean, calm look

Option 2 — Full Product With Text Overlay

• Product fills most of the frame

• Minimal text (5–7 words max)

• Plenty of white space

Option 3 — Product + Lifestyle Detail

• Main product image

• Small secondary detail

• No clutter

Pin templates for option 1-3 - do you see how tempting & inspiring these are for people to re-pin to their own boards?

How beauts are my template examples above? These are just 3 of 40 Editable Pinterest Pins in my Editable Canva Pack that you can start adding your own products/services/photos inside them.

🚫 What to Avoid

And quite honestly all my businesses in the past did all of these things! Oops! Well not any more and I'm here to help you not make the same mistakes I did.

• Very tall pins (1000 × 1800+)

• Tiny script fonts (hard to read on mobile)

• Heavy text blocks

• Logos dominating the pin

• Over-designed layouts

Pinterest rewards clarity over creativity.

Quick Canva Setup Recommendation

If you don't want to buy pre-done done for you templates and I recommend that you do because you'll have access to a huge bank of these beautiful and varied layouts ready for the next stage in any good Pinterest Marketing Strategy which is: Creating your content strategy and batch creating. Having a bank of pre built layouts just makes life oh so easy. And I'm all for ease these days. Then follow my quick Canva Setup below:

Create 3 reusable templates:

  1. Product-led (no text)

  2. Minimal text overlay

  3. Soft message-led

All at 1000 × 1500 px.

You can rotate these endlessly with different photos.

TL;DR

Use: 1000 × 1500 px

• Your 1500 × 1500 images are ideal as source images

• Add text gently in Canva

• Keep it clean, calm, premium

And that's it - you're ready to start pinning!
