The Benefits of Grounding - For Body, Mind & Spirit

🌿 Grounding: The First Gentle Step That Can Change Everything on a Spiritual Awakening for the physical body, the mental health body and the spiritual lightbody...

In this series I share inner wisdom and tools that help illuminate and awaken peoples truth and ultimately their power - To harness divine energy - to create their own reality - by sharing the things that helped me on my own spiritual awakening, depression and healing journey and co-creation of my dream life building our villa in Bali and our full time travel life and worldschooling journey. When all said and done this blog started as just our life and is now a leading go to wellbeing and mindset blog helping people to raise their vibration and frequency to live better first and foremost but at a deeper level illuminate something within them that's ancient and knowing to help guide people back home to their truth. But let's have fun whilst we're here creating dreams and experiences that we actually want to create.

Subscribe to my YouTube Channel for videos for each wisdom/tool plus free meditations and frequencies to raise your vibration instantly.

I've pondered for a while where I want to take this blog and my YouTube channel and what really lights me up and where I can best be served. And I've had guidance with this also from spirit and my higher self (I'll share a full breakdown blog on how to connect to your spirit guides soon). I didn't want sensationalism: Headlines Like: "I healed lifelong depression overnight" (which did happen) OR "this is what a spiritual awakening looks like" or "how to manifest your dream life in Bali". Because even though I've done all these things and I'm living this life right now (that's what this blog started off to document) I didn't want to bombard people with all the materialistic sensations because this is people's lives here. They matter. And because this blog and the awakening of humanity during The Age of Aquarius that we've now entered is about truth. To sensationalise would take away from truth. It's about much more than that. The physical stuff is the icing cherry dollop wham bam on the top. You'll get to all that stuff. And also everybody's awakening looks different. Everybody's healing looks so different. And everybody's dreams, desires, wants look different too.

When I take my own awakening all the way back to the beginning — before Bali, before peace, before softness came — and manifesting a life in Bali when everything pointed against it - it didn’t start with a big revelation or all knowingness, or contact from an angel or ET's.

It started with tiny, ordinary nudges. Little feelings that pushed us (myself and Si) in the direction of doing something that we'd never done before. And I think that's where I need to start here. Overall it came to nudges that raised our vibration. And in raising our vibration and then thus frequency, this allowed other stuff to come in.

Things I’d never done before, that started calling me/us with this quiet, intuitive pull. Not in a forceful way or even a knowing 'you must do this' kind of way. But almost like little de ja vu feelings of intuitive nudges to start something or try something. And I think that's how I can help people best. Sharing my experience of lived awakening, where I was quite messy, and not really knowing or understanding what was going on. Those people are my people. The messy awakeners. I got you!

And early feelings for me were pulling me towards nature.

• I wanted to be barefoot on the earth. Shoes were pissing me off.

• I wanted to sit in silence without forcing it. Maybe this was meditation (I didn't know at the time, but it was. I was a monkey mind, non-meditating, entrepreneur type. Very masculine energy and thinking from logic and non of this woo stuff I talk about today)

• I craved fruit and simple foods. Less meat, I was actually repulsed by meat.

• I didn’t want the news, noise, or stimulation. News felt like poison.

• I wanted to be still — properly still — for the first time in my life. And on my own or away from people

None of it felt dramatic. Or “spiritual.”It just felt… right.

At the time, I didn’t realise it, but these gentle shifts were the first steps in my soft awakening. And this all felt so different to way I'd been living, this very fast stressful life, never having enough money, always struggling to want to even be alive, and fighting every step of the way. That the nudges were surprising to me. But yet felt so right.

I'd never even heard of grounding, but had always felt amazing on holiday when barefoot - and this is grounding! If you're on a healing journey, grounding is probably the most simplest, easiest forms of healing that requires virtually nothing from yourself other than turning up and doing the thing . i.e. taking off your shoes and socks and letting your bare feet touch earth in some variety (see further for the different surfaces and a 2 minute grounding ritual to follow).

And grounding — the simple act of reconnecting my body to the earth — was the very first practice that opened the door. Not just a holiday one off. Understanding that there was probably more going on than I realised with the simple act of connecting physically in some way to Earth and nature. I set about learning and living each part in the awakening as opposed to fighting and resisting what was being offered to me in wisdom and inner knowing. And just letting it come through to embody it / live it. And now with this blog not just live it but share it to help others on their own healing, awakening and manifestation journey (in that order) because if you heal the trauma, reprogram the subconscious mind and connect to divine source energy you can manifest anything you ever dreamed off. But it starts Here. Today.

ree

This post is the beginning of that story, and the beginning of a series on the practices that quietly changed my life to be now normal everyday practices that I can't be without in terms of just feeling better, feeling more connected, in peace, for spiritual development also, grounding is the first thing I do for all multi-dimensional work or energy work. It really is the foundation (ground) to the upper levels of the mind and the sub-conscious. And as electromagnetic beings, this grounding blog will help every single human on this planet in so many ways. I'm a fan can you tell.

I'm going to talk about all the many things / symptoms that I experienced as part of my own spiritual awakening. Today we start with grounding — what it is, why it works, and how it can support both your health and your spiritual clarity.

🌼 What Is Grounding? (Simply, for Human's)

Grounding, sometimes called earthing, is the practice of connecting your body directly to natural surfaces:

• grass

• soil

• sand

• stone

• water

It’s the opposite of rushing, scrolling, consuming, or distracting.

It’s the moment your body returns to neutrality.

Grounding can look like:

• walking barefoot

• sitting on the earth

• lying in the grass

• touching a tree

• letting your feet sink into sand

• swimming in the ocean

• holding smooth stones

• standing still and breathing outdoors

You can also buy grounding or earthing blankets that ground you whilst indoors etc, but I haven't tried this, this blog is purely about the free and natural ways to ground in nature.

ree

People often think grounding is something “spiritual,”but it’s actually profoundly physical above all else.

It works because your nervous system recognises natural environments as safe — and it shifts your entire human physiology accordingly.

🌿 Why Grounding Works: Our Nervous System Truth

The human body was actually designed to live in nature, not on concrete or behind screens as we found ourselves, living our disconnected fast paced Western rat race life.

ree

Always in shoes, and then because England is so cold, I'd slip the shoes off and go straight into slippers. So in all I always wore shoes - which negates any of Earths natural grounding that you could pick up in the day to day rat race. Oh lucky us.

When you connect with the earth directly and ground, several things happen:

✨ 1. Your stress response lowers

Being barefoot or in nature activates the parasympathetic nervous system — the part responsible for:

• rest

• digestion

• emotional regulation

• creativity

• clarity

• safety

This reduces cortisol (the stress hormone that's responsible for so many Western illnesses, weight gain and general miserableness) and calms the mind.

ree

It’s why grounding often feels like:“Ah… there I am.” If you have never grounded before, please take your shoes and socks off right now!

And go to your nearest natural surface (doesn't matter if it's a pavement, but ideally some soil, grass, natural flooring outdoors) and stand barefoot and take a few deep breaths in, notice what you feel.

Notice what your toes feel, the coolness of the floor underneath. Just this noticing is enough - you just grounded. And chances are you felt something.... For me it's a very subtle moment. A thing you could easily miss (and we do) when our minds are racing and you're thinking of what's for tea tonight or what deadline do I have to meet. But a subtle hum that's always there when you are still and take the mind there. Like that first feeling of sand on bare feet as you hit the beach for the first time on holiday. That “Ah… there I am.” realisation. Subtle... but something. So what is that 'something'...?

ree

Well, Your body becomes electrically neutral

The Earth has a heartbeat and a vibration (know as the Schumann Resonance) and it holds a natural negative charge. Your body absorbs excess positive ions constantly all day long (from stress, picked up from using screens, and exposure to pollution).

Grounding helps rebalance this electrical load to a more neutral state — which is why during and after grounding people feel:

• clearer

• less inflamed

• less tense

• more steady

• more present

This it’s mystical woo btw — it’s bioelectrical bodily regulation.

From there your presence returns

ree

Grounding pulls your attention: From the mind → into the body. From thoughts → into sensations. From overwhelm → into the very now moment. This shift changes EVERYTHING. Because the very now moment is also where divine energy resides. And this is magnetic and healing.

• anxiety reduces

• your breath deepens

• your posture softens

• your internal noise quiets

Helping you to feel safe. Once your body feels safe, your mind becomes clearer.

That clarity is the beginning of awakening. When we start to notice a gap between the life we're living and the 'thing' what's always there but maybe we'd not even noticed it. It's the noticing of something.

🌸 The Mental & Emotional Benefits of Grounding

Grounding supports emotional health in ways I didn’t expect. If I was prescribed a dose of grounding over depression medication, this would have been far more helpful in my 20+ year battle with depression. Something I could move forward with and practice rather than pop a pill every day. Maybe I could ground and pop a pill. I'm not completely against medication where medication is due. But the sad part is that my medical treatment never involved anything like this recommendation, to empower me to come back to my truth / my true self. And sadly, that's by design. It's not helpful for big pharma who make billions on medications to have humans knowing any of this stuff. And hence the people stay disconnected. The people stay sick. By design.

Power is in nature. And my awakening led me to nature through remembrance. Which in turn helped me remember my own power.

Here’s what changed for me when I began grounding regularly:

🌿 1. I became less reactive

Grounding creates a gap between stimulus and response. Instead of reacting instantly, you feel a moment of: “Wait. Let me breathe. What’s actually happening here?”

For example if someone cut me up whilst driving my initial reaction was to see red. I had an awful road rage. Grounding gave my brain the gap of thing happening = a paused reaction. That quite often wasn't as angry or enraged. Same with any situation, some sad news, a slow sales day that would normally make me plunge into fear. Enter a Gap. That gap is life-changing.

🌿 2. I stopped racing myself

I used to be in a constant rush — mentally and physically. In fact I likened my brain to feeling like it was crawling with insects. Constantly ticking. It would not switch off.

Grounding slowed my internal rhythm. I mentally started to see my feet on the ground as the switch, because once they hit, I felt something. And so I saw that as the switch that I allowed myself to switch off. I started moving at a pace that matched my body, not my stress. Even if it was just for the short while grounding and the after effects afterwards - it showed me another way to live. And I wanted more of that life. Because my real life was frazzled, frantic and I was not at peace.

🌿 3. I felt emotions without being consumed by them

Grounding anchors you in the body, not the mind - thought loop.

So sadness, anger, or fear or whatever the emotion can move through you, without spiralling or becoming overwhelming. Grounding helps with the regulation of emotion and seeing that emotion from a higher plane.

🌿 4. I felt safe in stillness

Stillness used to feel uncomfortable — like I should be doing something. A waste of time in my opinion back then. I was too busy to be still. And too poor to stop working. And too sad to be happy. And too... you get my point. And our Western world encourages this type of mentality - you are almost rewarded for being busy, working hard, punishing and working ourselves to death.

But grounding made stillness feel nourishing, restful, home-like.

That single shift opened the door to other stillness / mindful activities - for the first time in my life I looked at meditation, had a little more clarity, and my intuition started creeping in. Just from the simple thing of standing barefoot in nature - grounding.

🌙 The Spiritual Benefits of Grounding

Grounding can be a very spiritual event if you want it to be. For me now, this is the only reason I ground. I enjoy being connected to Source Energy at all times or as much of my waking life as possible and so I ground to keep that clear connection. This helps me manifest with total ease and feel peace and joy. Who knew this was me now. But I understand not everybody is this way and if you're purely here for the health benefits - then I hope grounding helps you to relax, reduce stress, regulate your CNS and just 'be' for 5 mins. In our fast paced lifestyles this is all good.

For spiritual purposes grounding reconnects you with:

• your body

• your intuition

• your presence

• your aliveness

It helps you establish the different parts that exist of The Self and let's the Spirit part come through. It doesn’t give you powers. It doesn’t open portals. It simply removes noise. Creates that gap where source can flow easily.

Once the noise is gone, your natural inner wisdom becomes accessible.

It is also a must before astral projection and all energy work where you are working with entities, dimensional beings and attachments.

Here’s how grounding supports spirituality:

🌸 You hear your intuition more clearly

Not because grounding “activates” intuition — but because it quiets the mental chatter that blocks it.

🌸 2. You reconnect with your inner child

Grounding evokes:

• curiosity

• innocence

• wonder

• play

• openness

This reconnects you with who you were before stress hardened you.

🌸 3. You feel part of something bigger

If you've ever felt like there's something else. That you're meant for something else, and that there is more to this life - maybe that you're here for a reason and you just don't seem to have all the answers but you know something, then you are already connecting to that inner knowing of ancient and forgotten power that is within us all. And natre can help you hone in on this part of you.

ree

Nature dissolves the illusion of separateness. Because the greatest lie humanity was ever told is our separation from the divine, source energy. We believed it. And when we believe something to be true - as part of that divine power - it is true. This is the real power of our own minds and subconscious - only we must be aware and know it to be true as your belief and identity to utilise it's power. And so like a self fulfilling prophecy we make it so. Separation is the ultimate illusion. It's not true. And spending as much time in nature grounding will help you return to this inner knowing of connectedness to All that is.

Not through ideology — but through sensation / feeling:

warmth, sun, air, soil, breath, the heartbeat of the earth. You can feel this pulse beneath you if you stop to notice it.

🌸 4. You soften into surrender

Grounding teaches your body that:

you don’t have to grip so tightly. You don’t have to control everything. Life can be trusted.

This is what ACIM terms as forgiveness. This is known as surrender in spiritual terms.

This is nervous-system regulation in scientific terms.

They’re all pointing to the same thing.

💚 My First Grounding Experience (And Why It Stood Out)

I remember the first time I grounded intentionally.

I didn’t call it grounding because I didn't actually know 'grounding' was a thing — I simply felt the urge to be outside. Go outside barefoot on the grass near our house. It was Spring. We were living at the time in a tiny terrace house that had no garden. It felt like quite a stifling and trapped way of living, but it was a do-er upper house that we'd bought to renovate and sell on as soon as it was finished. I didn't realise at the time but having no access to outdoor space can feel like it's closing us in sometimes and I was exactly at this point. This is why it's really important to get that access to nature.

So having lived closed in for a while, I felt a strong pull to just be outdoors, maybe I could go to the green (a communal spot near the house) - this is the internal dialogue of divine intuition (higher self thoughts) that can come through during an awakening.

Thoughts that wouldn't normally cross your mind or things that can take you a little by surprise. But if you follow these intuitive thoughts and just do - more often than not, it was the right thing to do. You see, our higher self is willing us to do well and progress.

I found myself outdoors with no shoes on grounding on grass. The ground felt cool, soft, alive. And you know, it just felt soooo good. I remember wiggling my toes feeling the sensations.

And something in me softened too.

It was such a small moment. Yet it felt like something inside me finally said: “You’re safe now. Come home.”

I didn’t know it then, but that was the moment my awakening began.

So not with fireworks — but with presence.

Not with revelation — but with feeling.

Not with effort — but with surrender.

There was no big flashy moment. Only the knowing that this felt good on a soul level and that I wanted and needed more of it in my life. I'd never really been outdoorsy and being outdoors was never a real 'need' or mine. So this new feeling felt different and going forward became part of my daily routine. If I didn't have my daily grounding in nature for just a small amount of time. I noticed it. I felt it and I felt a strong pull to rectify that. An that's what an awakening is. An inner pull to something that brings you to your nature peace, natural truth and natural closeness to divine source energy. Little breadcrumbs walking us back home. And so if you are wanting to start your own daily grounding routine check out my quick (and easy) guide below. There's nothing to it. Just yourself, nature and you taking that small action to do it and notice the sensations of you doing it. That's it.

🌿 How to Ground (A Simple, Gentle Guide)

You can ground anywhere nature exists. Anytime. Whenever you feel called to do so. One of my friends feels pulled to touch trees everywhere we go. I used to find this funny, and a quirk of hers, but in truth she's grounding just not on the floor.

Here are the simplest everyday ways to ground:

ree

✨ 1. Barefoot on the Earth

Grass, soil, sand, stone — 5–10 minutes is enough.

✨ 2. Hands on a Tree

Trees ground deeply into the earth. So touching one with bare hands helps you do the same. Trees are so wise that I can impart their knowledge onto us if you are sensitive to energy. I have a very dear and close friend (same friend mentioned above) who talks to trees. That's her gift. She's able to speak and listen to plants and animals.

She can ask it q's and get some lovely replies. It's really quite beautiful walking with her because of the conversations we'll have. I don't receive this through but it really is remarkable what nature is saying to us if we can listen with different ears.

ree

✨ 3. Sit on the Ground

Bring your spine in contact with nature. This is deeply regulating for the nervous system.

✨ 4. Lie Down in Grass

Let the earth hold your weight. This is profoundly calming.

✨ 5. Swim in Natural Water

Salt water is especially grounding and cleansing (more on this practice another time). Lakes and rivers work beautifully too.

✨ 6. Walk Slowly in Nature

Feel each step. Let your senses open.

✨ 7. Breathe With the Earth

Place a hand on your heart and inhale slowly for a few minutes.

This drops your system into safety.

There really are many ways to connect with nature. Simple pick what's best and available to you at the time and connect. The key is routine too. If you notice that it felt really good, then why wouldn't you want to do this daily. Establishing a ritual makes a ritual out of it. Natures daily medicine for mind body and soul.

🌱 A Gentle 2-Minute Grounding Ritual

Print this off

  1. Step outside.

  2. Touch the earth — feet, hands, or both.

  3. Inhale for 4 counts.

  4. Exhale for 6 counts.

  5. Notice one sound, one sensation, one breath.

  6. Whisper: “Here I am.”

That’s grounding. That’s presence. And That’s healing.

🌸 Grounding was the first time in years — maybe decades —that my body felt safe enough to let go.

And when the body softens, the heart opens. The mind clears. The soul speaks. The awakening begins. Not dramatically or loudly or all at once.

But softly, gently, quietly. Like remembering something you didn’t realise you’d forgotten.

Grounding was the first thread I followed. Little breadcrumbs of inner wisdom that eventually led me back to myself.

If you’re beginning your own gentle awakening, this is a beautiful place to start.

Just step outside. Take off your shoes. Touch the earth. And breathe.

The rest will unfold naturally in divine timing.
