The History of The Solfeggio Frequencies
Origin & History of the Solfeggio Frequencies
In this blog post we'll explore the solfeggio frequencies ancient roots and trace them back to the medieval Latin hymn to Saint John the Baptist (Ut queant laxis). And journey back to modern times in the seventy's where Dr. Joseph Puleo used mathematical number-reduction, to find repeating patterns based on the digits 3, 6, and 9. And how this today with our expanded thinking on the 369 Tesla frequencies brings it into the modern day healing through sound, energy, frequency and vibration. Let's jump in:
First up - What are The Solfeggio Frequencies?
Before we get into the history of the solfeggio frequencies, first we must discover what exactly are these frequencies - said to be beneficial for mind, body and spirit.
The Solfeggio Frequencies are currently a major trend in the wellness and alternative healing culture, with millions streaming solfeggio tones for relaxation purposes, healing or focus. But what exactly are they & what are they supposed to do?
The Solfeggio frequencies are a set of specific sound tones and frequencies that have their roots in ancient times and are now used in alternative sound therapy and meditation.
Believed to promote physical healing, emotional balance, and spiritual well-being. There are 9 in total, with each frequencies purported to have benefits for different parts of the body and having different benefits.
The Origins of the Solfeggio Scale: Ancient Sound, History Modern Resonance
There is much online about the medieval background of these frequencies. Through the Guido d’Arezzo & Sacred Chant.
The story of the Solfeggio scale begins in 11th-century Italy with a Benedictine monk named Guido d’Arezzo. At that time, musical notation didn't exist; monks had to memorise hundreds of Gregorian chants by ear, which took years to do. He created the original solfeggio system to teach singers these Gregorian chants (this process was called Solmization - which is the musical pitch identification system that we use today consisting of seven syllables do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, and ti)

To solve this, Guido invented the modern musical staff and a 6-note vocal scale called a hexachord. He used a specific Latin prayer, the Hymn to St. John the Baptist (Ut queant laxis), to teach pitch.
The first syllable of each line of the hymn started on a progressively higher note.
The original six notes of this sacred scale were - which you'll recognise today ("Doe, a Deer" from the musical "The Sound of Music"). The Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do – the familiar major scale comes from what we call the solfege system of sight-reading that we are discussing here:
Ut (later changed to Do)
Re
Mi
Fa
Sol
La
Since the time of Guido we have since added the note Ti, or in some languages called Si, to the end of the scale and replaced the Ut with Do, preferring the hard consonant sound over the soft vowel sound. But overall this modern day scale can be traced all the way back to Benedictine monk, Guido d’Arezzo mentioned above.
These chants used Just Intonation, a system of natural tuning based on pure, mathematical ratios of sound. This created clean acoustic intervals that resonated deeply in stone cathedrals, which induces a deeply calm, meditative state in those who listened.
However, by the late 16th century, the church shifted toward the 12-tone Twelve-Step Equal Temperament tuning (the scale used on modern pianos), and the original pure harmonic frequencies were lost to mainstream culture for centuries.
It is within the framework of Solfegge (thanks to Guido d’Arezzo) that the Solfeggio Frequencies originated.
So, Lets now move into more modern times...
The frequencies that we use today were brought back to light in the mid-1970s by a physician and researcher named Dr. Joseph Puleo.
Dr. Joseph Puleo was exploring natural healing and vibrational ideas and described having spiritual experiences and visions or a sense of divine guidance, that led him to study the Bible using a method he called Pythagorean numeral reduction.
Using Pythagorean mathematical number reduction (an ancient numerological practice of reducing multi-digit numbers down to a single digit, believed to reveal hidden universal patterns).

Puleo was also guided at the same time to study the King James Bible—specifically Chapter 7 of the Book of Numbers. Where he uncovered a repeating pattern of numbers hidden within verses 12 through 83.

Which lists offerings from Israel’s twelve tribes over twelve days. He noticed phrases repeating every six verses (like “on the first day,” “on the second day”) and saw this as significant.
He then reduced verse numbers to single digits, for example:
Verse 12 → 3 (1+2=3)
Verse 24 → 6 (2+4=6)
Verse 36 → 9 (3+6=9)
This formed 396, and when repeated with other sets, he derived 417, 528, 639, 741, and 852, interpreted as Hertz frequencies. Puleo connected these to patterns in Psalm 119 and to both English and Hebrew alphabets, where numbers often reduced to 3, 6, or 9, symbols of “completion.”
Nikola Tesla deeply understood the energetic fabric of reality, noting, "If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration."
What this code revealed according to Puleo was a series of six repeating electromagnetic frequencies that matched the syllables of the ancient Ut queant laxis hymn:
396 Hz (Ut) – Liberating guilt and fear
417 Hz (Re) – Undoing situations and facilitating change
528 Hz (Mi) – Transformation, miracles, and intention
639 Hz (Fa) – Connecting and relationships
741 Hz (Sol) – Awakening intuition and expression
852 Hz (La) – Returning to spiritual order
These developments of notation and singing practice make Guido de Arezzo
Puleo believed these were divine healing codes, were placed in the Bible intentionally. I do personally believe that the bible has hidden meanings and messages within it's parables about the hidden universal truths about our divine oneness and potential and I'll talk more about that on the YT channel.
Later in the 1900s, medical researcher and author, Dr. Leonard Horowitz expanded the mathematical grid to include 174 Hz, 285 Hz, and 963 Hz, creating the complete 9-tone matrix that we use today.
Dr. Leonard Horowitz teamed up with Puleo and they illuminated our understanding of the esoteric world of ancient tones and together in their book the Healing Codes for the Biological Apocalypse, (a book written by Dr. Leonard Horowitz, originally published in 1999). Publishers were hesitant in publishing this book and so the authors opened their own publishing company (Horowitz’s Tetrahedron Publishing Group) to get this book out. In which Dr. Joseph unfortunately lost his life not long after publishing. This book assists and almost predicts so much with the events we are currently living in. Actions of government going back decades, pharma, dirty politics, and hidden healings in sound and frequency. Covering topics such as healing frequencies, Tesla, cymatics, gov files, pharma testing. A must read imo.

This fascinating book popularised these six original tones (musical scale) and musical sound vibrations which transmit spiritual healing energies and specific healing properties which has been a 3,000 year-old buried treasure encoded in secret codes in the Bible. That leads to the discovery of encoded mathematical intelligence of a sacred mathematical matrix.
A fascinating read for anyone interested in this kind of thing.
174 Hz: Associated with reducing physical pain and tension.
285 Hz: Associated with tissue and cellular renewal.
396 Hz: Associated with liberating guilt and fear, and grounding.
417 Hz: Associated with undoing situations and facilitating positive change.
528 Hz: Often called the "Love" or "Transformation" frequency, famously claimed to repair DNA and reduce stress.
639 Hz: Associated with connecting, empathy, and harmonising relationships.
741 Hz: Associated with emotional awakening, expression, and cleansing toxins.
852 Hz: Associated with returning to spiritual order and intuition.
963 Hz: Associated with higher consciousness and a connection to universal energy

The Science of Frequency
Do the Solfeggio Frequencies Work & Is there any Scientific Claim?
Ask anyone who has felt the benefits of these frequencies whether they work or not and their answer will always be the same. Anyone that has 'felt' a benefit does not need scientific claim or to be told that something does or does not work for them. When we 'feel', we know - and that's sometimes the only proof one needs.
However skeptics often need Science to prove or disprove. And in order for anything to be accepted within 'popular science' must be approved within the scientific framework.
Broader research supports that listening to calming music and frequencies has a benefit on health and mind such as it can lower heart rates, reduce anxiety and promote relaxation though these effects are usually tied to the soothing music rather than mystical properties of the exact Hertz values.
However there is limited evidence and no clinical scientific proof that specific Solfeggio frequencies directly heal, cure diseases or repair DNA. While the historical lineage relies on ancient texts, modern physics validates why these sound frequencies strike such a deep chord within us.
But what we do know that is supported by science is that everything in our universe—down to our cells—vibrates at a specific frequency. This is Energy and you can explore more here.
When our bodies fall out of harmony, stress and disease take over. This very fascinating TEDxTalk about The Medicine of Frequencies. What did Einstein mean? | Dr. Mitchell Abrams | TEDxTrinityBellwoods is an interesting watch. Where Albert Einstein (The iconic physicist) famously predicted the trajectory of healing by stating, that "Future medicine will be the medicine of frequencies."
Today, modern hospitals prove this daily by replacing scalpels with high-frequency waves in MRIs, ultrasounds, and targeted kidney stone lithotripsy.
And whilst we still have limited scientific information regarding the Solfeggio Frequency's and frequency in general it is of my opinion that science has yet to catch up. And maybe it never will until frequency can be monetised. It maybe that Science does not want to catch up or that based on current definitions of the subtle energy body (a definition that does not exist) therefore work within this subtle energy cannot sit on top of such lacking or non-existent definitions. Picture this:
Imagine if you are the head of a powerful company selling pills to help people who feel depressed, powerless through loss of hope which is essentially 'Depression'. Read about my own journey of having depression for 20+ years here. That funds the research that helps shape the collective perception of reality through 'Science' and then 'Education'. What you research is your choice. And what you choose to distribute and teach through a standardised education system also becomes your choice. From a business perspective which world view would you prefer out of these 2: Worldview 1: we are disconnected and need external help for healing. So we look outside of ourselves to be healthy, happy, better OR Worldview 2: we are energetic beings living in an energetic universe that needs only to look at energy, frequency and vibration and within to be healthy, happy, better. From a business perspective it's better that that collective holds a the first worldview. Whereby the science you present backs up the product you are selling. And so maybe the 'science' will never catch up until powerful entities allow it.
I am not advocating swapping traditional medicine for sound. But using it as a complimentary tool. I can only comment on my own healing journey where I fully swapped medicine for sound. But the above is a pure 'pause for thought' moment to reflect on one reason as to why evidence is lacking into frequency and sound. Yet millions of people find healing in sound & frequency. I have lived experience of a life of struggle, depression & continuously searching outside of myself. To actually find (age 40) my own peace, healing & life benefits from going within.
Which is the only reason I share this blog. To help others with an alternative worldview explore things that have helped me & my family these last few years. And this is also one of the reasons I play my sound bowls for free on YouTube to give others the opportunity to feel their own way to what's true for them.
Dr. Mitch Abrams (Modern Radiologist) also shares this view, highlighting how Western medicine is catching up to ancient sound therapy. Dr. Abrams points out in his studies that medical imaging tools read vibration and interpret the invisible. When we use external sound therapy, we are directly influencing our internal biology through a process called auditory entrainment.
The Future of Medicine
Understanding this deep, sacred history makes complete sense of why we fell in love with these sounds. We didn’t know any of the medieval history or the bible references when we first started looping these tones on our speakers while worldschooling our kids in South East Asia. We just noticed the physical, mathematical reality: it created an unshakeable sense of calm and peak mental focus in our environment. Cleared the mental clutter & noise.
And since we know that everything is energy. Ultimately electro magnetic energy moving at different frequencies to create densities. Pure energy being electromagnetic radiation = light. It is simply frequency, movement/vibration or put another way, actually, SOUND.
Nobel Prize for Physics Quantum Physicist Max Planck 1918 said:
"We have now discovered that there is no such thing as matter; it is all just different rates of vibration designed by an unseen intelligence"
P.S. Another word for vibration is frequency. So re-read the above with the word 'frequency' also.
For anybody that is open to the workings of the Universe and understands that everything is energy, in movement & constant vibration - it stands to reason that in a world where we are all vibration that we look to the tools of this energy, frequency and vibration. Treating vibration/frequency with vibration/frequency seems logical to me.
And that is with the very frequencies and sounds themselves.
Whether the felt effects of these frequencies is a placebo effect or something deeper, their popularity shows the humans intrigue and desire to find meaning and connection to something bigger through sound. Could it be also that this is the effect also.
On this blog we share our personal experiences of using these tones but mindful that
we must remain grounded and open to all Scientific evidence that comes through.

I hoped this Frequency Altering blogging post helped you.
Let me know in the comments below if you liked this post or if it helped you in your own healing + energy journey. Because we are all energy and knowing this opens doors to healing and quantum manifestation that we never dreamed possible. If we can heal at the basic level, expanded levels of awareness and consciousness can be allowed to come through allowing the energies of these higher possibilities and timelines to come through too. And whilst this section is not about manifesting and co-creating the life you dream, it acts purely as a gateway into accessing such higher truths about who we really are. And to do that we must heal our lower vibrational energies within the body and self and work with energy how it's truly meant to be worked with and The Solfeggio Frequencies help with doing that.
