9 Reasons Why People Awaken Faster in Bali

Why People Awaken Faster in Bali: The Gentle Science Behind a Magical Feeling

ree

There are places in the world that feel like an exhale the moment you arrive. Places where your shoulders drop, your breath deepens, and your mind becomes quieter without you trying.

The Leyline intersection, temples North, East, South, West, the heavily influenced Balinese Hinduism and tolerance of all religions on her lands, the nature, the volcanic energy, the ceremony, the people.

For many people, Bali is one of those places. And for others they just don't 'get it' and I really do get both sides to that argument. On the surface, Bali is not a holiday destination I would ever choose (even now after living here for almost 2 years). Plus it's so bloody far from the UK it's generally not somewhere many Brits go for their holidays. Popular for Aussie tourists - some love Bali, some don't - and it's an ongoing debate that I see on social media. I understand both sides equally. But one side comes from logic and one side is felt.

Underneath the surface of "holiday-Bali", there's something happening here for souls (or spirit). Energetically. For souls that have shadows to work through and souls that are awakening, Bali draws them in and sometimes spits them right back out. And for empaths, truth seekers and those awakening, it has some kind of magical draw to it that's hard to explain and see with human eyes. But as a feeler of energy it can be 'felt' the moment you enter it's volcanic airspace on the plane.

Some describe it as “energy.” Some call it “frequency.” Some say it’s “spiritual.” Whatever it is it's "something". And in this blog I talk about what exactly it is, how Bali has helped my own spiritual awakening become that little bit softer after a dark night of the soul in the UK and why the frequency of Bali is pulling souls here to help awaken consciousness in the great age of truth and awakening that we're in right now on Earth.

Skip this bit if you're already a reader >> If you're new here, hello and welcome to my blog. I'm Fletch (waves) you can read about me here. But in a nutshell I was a burnt out business Mum of 2 living a rat race life in the UK that had depression for most of it. One step forward, two steps back and after the beginnings of a spiritual awakening, and self healing from depression, I started asking the Universe for signs and those signs brought us here to Bali. This story is not unique to just me, my parter and Dad to my 2 kids was also going through his own awakening and was having his own crazy communications and signs. I keep nagging him to start writing more on this blog about his own version of events but you know what these boys are like. Maybe in time he'll tell his own story here. But what started as a tool to keep us accountable (this blog) when we first had the idea to up sticks and leave the UK with our 2 kids in tow. (When it felt uncertain and scary and like wtflippin-el-are-we-doing. Around the time when we thought we were going mad). Slap bang in the middle of a spiritual awakening that left us in that no-mans land of not fitting in where you are already and not knowing where you should be. Read our story here. This blog is now a go to tool for others on their own awakening, truth or healing journey. And especially for those looking to raise and maintain their frequency through vibration.

We listened to every scrap of intuition that was nudging us, then screaming at us that things must change. A scream that became so loud it was scarier to ignore and stay in the UK than sell our house, buy one way tickets and take our kids out of mainstream education to slow travel and world school - both 2 things we'd never done before. Not having all the answers, but sure that it was something we must do.

And so almost 2 years in I'm feeling reflective on my own questions as to 'Why Bali?' and 'What is my purpose?' and 'What am I here (in Bali) to do?' - probably if you are on your own awakening journey, the very same types of questions that you are asking yourself. Here I answer them in relation to my own experience of a spiritual awakening in Bali.

When we got off that one way flight, we were all still in survival mode with a fried Central Nervous System (CNS) from years of living in a Western disconnected society. More so than ever, because we'd just taken a huge leap of faith to move 8k miles and didn't really have any of it figured out. For total transparency here though: I had a regular income for monthly work in my own online business that could pay for us all should the worst happen and Si not be able to earn on his online work. P.S foreigners are not legally allowed to work and so online earning is a must. We also had savings. I get many people messaging to say that they're thinking of just taking the leap and that they will figure things out when they start travelling. For me, personally, I've found starting any new business very difficult (including digital marketing which I suck at, MLM which I'm not keen on etc). I had plans to start many things here that would fund our family income but so far these new ventures have not worked out for me in the way of any meaningful income (yet). And So my best advice to anyone inspired by this story is to have savings that cover however many months you need. The online space is a great place to earn money that's location dependent, and earning online is the best way to become financially free - whether that's selling digital products or earning on YouTube - but it's not as easy as social media will have us believe "I made £30k whilst sleeping" posts. My honest opinion. And travelling costs more than we budgeted for most of the time. Savings have been a God send. We overspend all the time and truthfully our money will run out if we don't start earning more soon. Although our house should be ready in April 2026 which will mean we have zero housing costs once that's done and so that's going to cut of monthly spend significantly.

Back to it - Fresh off that 22 hour flight - brand new to our plans with no plans life. More than ever we had to put our trust in something we couldn't see, surrendering the control of not having all the answers, not having it figured out, whilst doing it with 2 little humans that need (some) stability and feeding. And for the first 6 months to 1 year, I didn't give myself a minute to feel it all. I was just back to my default of surviving again. This familiar territory that I knew so well. I was concentrating on everyone else and how they were doing with it all. But what I found in Bali is that the healing is done through frequency from the land and so any healing or an awakening can done, by proxy, almost without realising. This is why I can't stress enough - GROUNDING - get those plastic lumps off your feet and go barefoot everyday (wherever you are Geographically even just 5-10mins) is going to connect you to the balancing energy - even if you feel all over the place in your own awakening. Just give yourself this one gift everyday and your CNS will thank you for it.

Many people awaken in Bali, because once you peel through the layers of yourself: Bali feels like the external version of inner peace.

And that’s why many people awaken here — not through intensity, but through softness. Although Bali can be extremely intense for those not in resonance to it.

In this post, I’m going to share the real reasons why Bali helps people open, soften, and return to themselves… gently. Which is why people feel that energetic pull to return and spend meaningful time here. It's not a 2 week holiday thing. It's a soul resonance thing that once your spirit has felt this frequency, your whole being wants for that and knows that it is home. But is this because Bali is a place? Or is it a frequency? Let's explore ...

There's a little bit of woo in terms of leylines which I personally love and work with but I know they're not everyone's cup of tea. As well as real-world factors that alter your nervous system.

🌺 1. Bali Regulates Your Nervous System — Without You Doing Anything

This is the biggest reason of all as to Why People Awaken Faster in Bali. And this can be done anywhere, it's just a case of knowing how to regulate when density is heavier. But in Bali this happens by default.

In the West, your body is always braced: It's fast paced, theres social pressure / expectations, noise, consumerism, surveillance, stimulation always, competition, city energy and suppressed emotions. Your system never truly drops.

Most people live their entire adult life in a low-level survival mode:

• rushing

• multitasking

• overthinking

• comparing

• striving

• performing

• self-pressure

• disconnection

In Cities, with busy jobs, with social expectations, and constant noise keep the nervous system in high “alert” state. This was certainly how we lived back in the UK. And this is all by design btw. Society is designed to keep people in a survival-fear-based mode. WHY? Because when you regulate and live within a regulated CNS, life flows and you start to see the synchronicities and pointings to your true self. That is : the self that is not of the ego and that is connected to source energy. The creator of worlds. And guess what, once you live within this identity you awaken and start to remember your original divine powers of healing and co-creation. Your natural state blue print that has been closely guarded and kept suppressed. This is just the start.

But Bali is built differently.

In Bali, your system drops instantly: with a slower pace, barefoot living, nature literally everywhere, warm air, open smiling faces, friendly tones, low stress, communal compassion

You shift from fight/flight into rest/receive - which is the actual gateway to awakening.

Warm air relaxes your muscles.

Nature surrounds you from every angle.

Life slows you down, not speeds you up.

Even just for a holiday. Pro-long this state and your natural healing state can triumph.

When your nervous system softens… your mind becomes clearer, you stop having to rely on your mind for safety and to think yourself out of a pickle, a problem or just day to day. You start to notice that your emotions become gentler, and your intuition becomes louder.

That feeling is what people call “awakening.” It feels like magic, because you start to become aware of The Self as something more than just the body. It starts to feel like magic.

But it's not magic — it's regulation.

And regulation feels like peace. Even if your outer world isn't peace at that moment, the inner world can feel peace with regulation and no need for things or stuff to cause this peace. In fact quite the opposite: this internal peace has nothing to do with stuff/things/medication.

ree

It's daily mindfulness. Go check out my Bali Mindful Coloring Book for when you can't get to Bali - let Bali come to you - designed to evoke this inner peace simply through taking action to color in.

ree

Bali gets you thinking 'there must be more to this peace thing than meets the eye' Yes Yes YES there is! By golly she's getting it. Peace is what we're aiming for here... but for now baby steps. This is why Meditation is central to an awakening. When in a present moment peace state of meditation you start to regulate your central nervous system even just temporarily (and some is better than none). More peace mirrors more peace. More peaceful thoughts, more peaceful outcomes. Safety. And where safety is fear cannot be. It's impossible for the 2 to live side by side. You no longer need to survive in this state.

And this leads me on to point 2: this temporary state can become more of a lifestyle thing in Bali because....

🌴 2. The Island’s Pace Rewrites Your Internal Rhythm

And that's a good good thing.

In the West, productivity is the god. It's revered and our status is viewed in terms of how busy we've been or how productive we've been. How much exactly did we squeeze into a window of time. And that behaviour is actually rewarded. A bit like Pavlovs dogs - we get a pat on the head since being little - that we've been frazzingly busy and so well done, here's a pat on the head.

But in Bali, presence is.

Things take time here — and strangely, that time is healing.

Life moves slower:

• conversations are unhurried

• meals are lingered over

• people actually look at you (in fact will actively ask 'hey where you going?' which at first can feel alarmingly nosey. But it's not it's the pace of life. People actively slow their day to be involved in your day and simply want to know what you're doing or where you're going in general interested day to day slowness.

• traffic forces surrender

• ceremonies pause life at least twice a day or the daily offerings where everything stops to place and light the Caning Sari (those beautiful little offerings literally everywhere all over the floors, pavements, walls in Bali. The air literally shifts.

• nature constantly invites you back into now, whether it's a big butterfly landing next to you, the Bali dogs yapping it's all part of the slow flow. That pause. Virtually everything forces you to stop and notice it in all it's splendour or culture shock (wherever you're at with your own Bali experience).

Your internal rhythm begins matching the island’s rhythm. It has to. Otherwise you're rubbing up against it and that simply doesn't work.

You stop rushing. You stop gripping. You stop forcing clarity.

And then something really beautiful happens:

your real self begins to emerge.

Not the performative self. Not the survival self.

The soft one. The grounded one. The one you forgot. Your True Self. Layer by layer for me (as I'm a slow learner) but as fast as you'd like if you're good a taking things at face value.

P.S. I slept loads in Bali. I allowed myself to sleep.

🌊 3. Nature Is Everywhere — and Humans Are Wired to Heal in It

Bali is one of the most nature-dense places on Earth.

There’s something healing about just being in it:

• the humidity

• the thick green leaves requiring nothing but being-ness (and sunshine + downpour aplenty)

• birdsong and gecko as background noise to everything (and all animal symphonies to be fair). We wake at 5m to the cockerels, then the cows start, then the dogs, always the crickets, always the geckos and frog hum. It forces you to realise that we are all here together and we are all part of the same thing. even if that is just a Tuesday morning at 5am

• warm rainstorms, the thunder, natures purge and cleanse

• the rich soil

• flowing water

• lush rice terraces

Nature doesn’t just look pretty — it's actually proven to change our biochemistry.

Sunlight + ocean ions actually change our brain chemistry.

Studies show:

✔ nature reduces cortisol

✔ sunlight boosts serotonin

✔ ocean ions lift your mood

✔ greenery improves emotional regulation

So whilst here, grounding in all this nature, it's no wonder people feel more themselves here.

Some say that it's Bali that heals you. Bali doesn’t heal you. You heal you - you always do -

But Bali creates the environment where you remember your divine nature to heal.

It removes what overwhelms you long enough for your inner clarity to surface. And you don't need 8k miles between you to do this. Just knowledge and awareness that this is all around us anyway - even in the more denser places energetically speaking, where maybe nature isn't buzzing and pulsing quite so loudly. The beauty is always there, the space to listen is always there. And being out in nature is the best way to quieten it all so you can get some space between yourself and Yourself. Something I wish I knew before feeling like I had no choice to but leave my old life in UK. In looking back it was never about Geography and I thought it absolutely was at the time. I just couldn't hear my own internal clarity.

And with this healing, one day I could go 'back home' to the UK. In fact after years of searching and running, I finally made peace with myself and God / Source / The Universe (however you like it - the creator of all that is) I would rather like to return home one day with new knowledge and inner wisdom. The UK might not be so bad as a whole and healed person. And I feel like so much good can be done there with a new way.

🌸 4. Balinese Culture Is Gently Regulating

The Balinese people live from values that modern life has lost. They don't mimic or act or do it for tourist reasons. They full on embody and live their culture. They actually couldn't give 2 hoots if you are watching, taking part or what not. But they welcome you with open arms if you do want to partake or marvel.

They live with this at their heart:

• community

• kindness

• cooperation

• respect

• devotion

• harmony

• gratitude

Daily offerings (canang sari) are reminders to pause and give thanks.

Temples are woven into everyday life, not separated from it.

Children grow up in large loving networks.

People laugh easily, smile readily, help instinctively.

This creates emotional safety.

Humans subconsciously regulate with the nervous systems around them.

And we as a family have all allowed ourselves the space to subconsciously regulate around gentle people, so that in time I've noticed a softness in our movements where your body becomes gentle.

Around peaceful people, your body becomes peaceful.

Around present people, your body becomes present.

This is the “energy” people feel in Bali — a human nervous system responding to a peaceful culture.

🕊 5. Bali Gives You Space — Internal & External

In many countries, it’s hard to hear yourself think. We recently left Bali for Barcelona for 1 month and oh my goodness was the difference so stark. It made me appreciate the island of Bali so much once I'd left it.

In Bali, silence is easy to find. Slow mornings are normal. You can hear wind, water, crickets, birds.

Your mind unclenches.

And in that unclenching, you start hearing:

• your intuition

• your real desires

• your emotional truth

• your unspoken needs

• your inner child

• your own wisdom

It's like finally learning how to listen. In Barcelona I was tested to ground the frequency of Bali and my own internal structures in a heavy geographic setting. There's no use having to go somewhere to feel the state, the key in awakening is embodying the frequency no matter the structure. This was my own test.

🌺 6. Bali Reflects Your Inner World Back to You (Fast)

People often say: “In Bali, everything feels amplified.”

That's because it operates fully in frequency. You notice:

• when you’re not aligned

• when you’re holding tension

• when you’re forcing things

• when you’re ignoring intuition

And you notice it quickly.

Why?

Because the island is quiet.

When the outer world is calm, the inner world becomes a lot louder. It's a lot easier here to hear the inner guidance, or receive guidance or clarity to life issues.

Instead of numbing or distracting yourself, you feel — and feeling is the beginning of healing. Which is why people often “change” in Bali:

Not because Bali transforms you. But because Bali stops drowning out your truth.

🧘‍♀️ 7. Bali Supports Soft Awakening, Not Forced Awakening

If you've already gone through a dark night of the soul, you'll already know that this can feel pretty brutal.

Some people awaken through:

• intensity

• breakdowns

• loss

• rock bottom

• chaos

What's left after that is an identity emergence and this comes through being aware of what is actually happening and then love. Acknowledging the love and light that is at the core of who you are, In fact it's all we are. And that's not all, that's everything.

Myself and many others who are drawn to Bali — awaken through:

• slowness

• gentleness

• creativity

• peace

• soft moments

• self-connection

• nature

• safe relationships

• quiet clarity

After the ego breakdown and the emergence of the True Self, it's about building and trusting and re-learning everything you thought you knew but through new eyes. Different eyes that see things completely different. Your awakening doesn't have to continue as being brutal if you don't want it to. Awakening here happens because you’re no longer in survival mode. Your softness finally has room to come forward.

Awakening isn’t meant to hurt. It’s meant to reveal.

Bali reveals who you are underneath stress.

And who you are is soft, intuitive, creative, open-hearted, and deeply at peace.

For me, when I enter denser lands, I brace immediately. My body tenses and I feel that pang of anxiety in my stomach, cortisol floods my body and I can feel it physically happen. And then via Universal Laws my reality becomes a mirror. Stuff and experiences happen that are undesirable to me and I see how this plays out in real time. It doesn't need to do that in Bali unless of course you come at Bali with resistance - she will quite literally mirror that back to you harshly and quickly. But I too am learning this through lived experience, and sharing it here with you. With an increased consciousness and awareness, it's possible to be aware of what's happening through a higher perspective and almost look in on the situation to see it for what it is, then adjust and regulate the emotion accordingly. This is transmutation of energy and I'm learning and playing with this at the moment.

Whenever I'm away from Bali, I'm aware of the difference in frequency and can see what's happening and I can apply Bali frequency to wherever I am. I am still learning my own power at this point. But hopefully this demonstrates to you that's it's not Bali per se but the frequency of Bali and that can be attained anywhere that you allow it.

This has been my biggest lesson. I always thought frequency was external to myself: a place, a thing (maybe a medicine), the foods you eat etc. It can be. But our biggest strength as awakening humans is to drop all externals for everything, because it is all within. Including that mental switch from fear and lack to love, peace and abundance. I didn't know this.

🌿 8. People Come to Bali to Remember, Not Become

The most beautiful truth:

Bali doesn’t change you. It helps you return to yourself.

And that feels like a very big change. It uncovers, (if you let it) what was always there. For good and bad. If there are shadows to illuminate here at this stage in your own awakening, then this is helped along here in Bali. We can heal them or we can bury them. For an awakening of your true gifts it's always paramount to heal them. But on our own time, because everybody's journey is different and perfectly timed for them. If you are interested in healing your shadows check out the shadow work section of the blog. It might be your time.

Your real self was always peaceful.

Always wise.

Always intuitive.

Always open.

Always capable of joy.

Always connected.

And always LOVE. It wasn't until I started Self Love that I became aware of how loved I was and supported and held. The practice of self care wasn't even a thing in my former life. So in my own healing from depression journey, I began with Self Care and progressed with Self Love when I could bare to be kinder to myself. I was a low healer, until one day the work was done and it felt like it was overnight.

Bali simply gives you the environment where remembering becomes easier than forgetting.

🌿 9. Ley Lines of Bali

Or Energy Hotspots!

The idea of “lines of energy” have been suggested where the energies are intensified at certain locations within the world to try to explain why some places feel different, more peaceful, more alive. There are planetary and Earth Chakras as well as our own body-energy chakras. Our planet as a living body has 7 major chakras associated with places where ley lines converge. Although there are many minor. Also called female and male dragon lines in Chinese tradition.

Ley lines are energetic currents that flow above and or below the ground. And a good way to find them is via old maps. But I share a map here for your reference. These spritually significant points on Earth around the world often share similar features:

• old churches

• crosses

• natural beauty

• the sources of springs / wells

• abundant plant life

• ancient groves of trees

• sacred temples

• neolithic earthworks

• slower-paced communities or sites of old habitation

• rituals and devotion

• connection to nature

• peace, quiet, and presence

• cultures that value harmony over productivity

All over the world religious buildings have been built on what was considered these scared places. Bali is one of those places that humans have experienced as energetically calming, harmonious, and conducive to inner peace for thousands of years. When taking dowsing rods or pendulums you can often find such areas of increased activity (go check out me dowsing at Melasti beach a known and public area in Bali for intense energy). Many sites are scared or closed off to the public and I only share publicly here the ones that it is only right to do so. At these points you can tune into the Earth energies where cosmic energy flows and comes into the region.

ree

Similar to chakra points in the body (the bodies energy meridians), the Earth has her own chakra points and it's said that Bali is the Purification centre of these energy lines where all Earths energy comes to be purified before flowing on through the other dragon lines: onward to Ayres Rock. Where we would balance the bodies chakras when out of sorts, blocked or stuck (check out The Chakra Healing Section), the Earths chakras are calling out for balance. And groups of ordinary people are meeting to focus global meditations to heal, restore, balance (gridwork). When positive energy pulses through these areas, they can function as intended, as the nerves and the arteries of Earth.

ree

It's also said that the moving third eye chakra of Earth is in Bali (although this can and does move and may not stay there), but pointing to the theory that Bali is energetically significant. But we knew that anyway right? From experience there are working portals here in some locations that are closely guarded by local knowledge that you may become aware of whilst you are here. Energy vortexes to different dimensions and cosmic energies to flow through and from.

Why I Specifically Felt the Pull to Bali during my own Spiritual Awakening

If like me you are feeling the pull to Bali, there might be a very good reason for that. This is why I was drawn here by synchronicities, signs, prayer and getting answers. Then deciding to act on that guidance as opposed to stay in my predictable, fear based, unhappy life. It became a pull too strong that I couldn't. Even with kids.

I was drawn to uproot and move my whole family to Bali for a number of reasons, mainly because:

• My system was finally ready for peace. And when you're ready for peace you'll know

• And you heal in peace, not pressure. Bali offers this emotional space for people

• My old identity had softened

• I needed a safe place to rebuild trust in myself and learn to feel my way through this new self

• I needed slowness

• My feminine energy needed space to develop and come online to gifts relating to creation and manifesting. I needed an environment that allows feminine energy to lead and

Bali is one of the few places where feminine softness feels normal and valued.

• My healing asked for gentleness

• My creativity needed room to breathe

• My mind needed quiet

• So my soul recognised the environment

Every part of myself was saying:

“Take me somewhere soft enough for me to feel again.”

And Bali answered. And she will do that for souls needing to be here for specific reasons.

That’s what the “energy” or “frequency” of Bali is - vibration is a feeling / emotion that becomes a frequency or belief of a place where I feel

“I can breathe here.”
“My body settles here.”
“My heart feels open here.”
“I feel more myself here.”

The island is a soul-retrieval portal for many

Not because of past lives specifically, but because of all the elements regarding Bali's energy: • it’s safe, gentle, heart-led energy which allows space to reconnect to simplicity, stripping away noise to let people remember who they are here.

Quietly.Softly.Organically. I had a soul reading in Bali which was very enlightening. More on that some other time.

🌺 My take home for anyone thinking of making that Bali leap:

You don’t awaken in Bali because Bali is magical. (of course it is beautifully magically gorgeous - go check out my YouTube channel where I share lot's of daily Bali shorts mostly, just wherever I am at that time - it's mostly always Bali beautiful)

But You awaken in Bali because you finally have space to hear yourself.

If you’ve ever felt that pull - that quiet whisper to slow down, soften, reconnect - listen to it.

It may not be Bali for you. It could be some other place. But start to trust in the quiet whisper. But somewhere in the world (or within yourself) is a place that feels like an exhale…

and when you arrive there, your soft awakening begins.
